THE SOUNDS OF SPACE
To reach a younger audience for Ad Astra, we commissioned indie musical artist, Blood Orange - aka Dev Hynes - to create a haunting, custom track featuring archival NASA sounds from space. We wanted the piece to artistically reflect the psychological alienation of life in deep space — the endless void. Using inspiration from Rorschach tests, visuals teased Brad Pitt’s character’s harrowing emotional journey to find his father, played by Tommy Lee Jones, in space. To prep our music brief, I listened to every archival sound available from NASA, providing selections for Dev and oversaw production from concept to launch.
The video dropped as a limited exclusive on Space.Com and was picked up by Yahoo & High Snobiety. Social content from Dev’s channels and 20th Century Fox drove fans to the full video.
